The Resurrection Sorrow – Hour Of The Wolf (2009)

cover

Hailing from New York, USA, The Resurrection Sorrow plays a mean mixture of Heavy and Stoner Metal, and while not the most original band, they do a pretty good job at getting people moving with their music.

“Hour Of The Wolf” features 10 tracks for over 45 minutes of rocking music that will grab your attention since track one. I’m not a huge fan of Stoner Metal, but the ‘heaviness’ infused by TRS make this album not have a dull moment.

The vocals are one of the best things of this release since they fit the music perfectly and they have the right amount of aggressiveness in them. Some times they even sound like Rob Zombie, but in general they are more in the vein of Fomento or The New Black.

Musically this band creates a very good atmosphere that carries the whole album from start to finish, based on powerful guitars and catchy riffs the band does not need anything else to make their music work. The guitar work might get tedious after a while and with the monotone nature of the vocals you might get lost in between songs, but if you like one, you will enjoy all of them, so it’s not a major problem for this release. The drumming is fairly standard and it’s drowned a bit behind the guitars and vocals on the album’s mix.

While “Hour Of The Wolf” is a good album, it does not offer anything new or groundbreaking in terms of originality, this is not necessarily a problem, since the music is pretty good and entertaining. I hope the band in future releases attempts to take their sound to a different level by trying to play some more original riffs and songs. Until then, if you are a fan of Heave/Stoner Metal, you will surely not be disappointed with this album.
