This Aussie band is back after one year to spread their musical sickness through another very solid and release. “Front The Final Foes” feels like the perfect continuation to “Cauldron”. The band’s guitar sound is what drew me to their last album “Cauldron” and it’s still one of the first things that stand out when listening to this release. While all the songs do not sound extremely original, the band does a great job at creating a thick sounding Black Metal that is neither technical or complex, but it’s highly effective in achieving that ‘in your face’ effect that many bands fail at. Ruins feature David Haley, the beast behind the drums for Psycroptic and Nervecell, so you know that you can expect an amazing drum track that is very brutal when needed and well structured. Like I mentioned before the guitars in this album are what makes it stand out for me, and the vocals are never annoying since they are kind of raspy in comparison to the traditional shrieks. The only thing that I find very interesting is that the band kept their sound completely intact from “Cauldron”, like time never passes on this band. They did not evolve one bit in this department, but like I’ve said before, if you have a good style and it works then do not change it. So if you are looking for a transition in the band’s sound you will not find it, but if you loved “Cauldron” then you will worship this album. Featuring 8 tracks, “Front The Final Foes” is a very good Black Metal album that will surely please most fans of the genre. Ruins are on their way of becoming one of the best BM bands out there and you should not miss this. |
