Nile – Those Whom The Gods Detest (2009)

cover

Two years have passed since their “Ithyphallic” album and now Nile is back and is ready to blow people away with “Those Whom The Gods Detest”.  The band is as brutal and technical as ever with this new release.

Featuring ten tracks of technical Brutal Death Metal “Those Whom The Gods Detest” is set to be one of the fastest and most brutal albums of this 2009. The intensity of the band’s music is what hooks me into listening to the bands albums since their career started back in 1993, and it show no signs of ever slowing down.

Nile is one of the few remaining bands of the 90’s Death Metal wave that has not suffered a decline in the quality of their music. Karl Sanders is one of the most iconic vocalists/guitar players of the genre and he keeps excelling at creating intricate guitar melodies in every one of his songs. The riffing is top quality and the band clearly exploits this in every track.

Like I mentioned before the guitar melodies is what drives this album from start to end, accompanied by an brutal drum track that will have people moshing from start to end. His vocals are as good as ever and they provide the required brutality that this music requires.

The signature Egyptian influences in small passages during the music are great pace changers during the tracks (and between them) to provide enough breathing room to fully digest this exercise in brutality and precision that no other band is capable of achieving. The band has managed to keep their signature musical style while adding different elements here and there to keep it fresh and never dull.

If you are looking for a brutal yet highly technical album look no more, since I don’t think you can find anything better this year. If you are a fan of the band, like always, you will not be disappointed by this release since it’s a perfect addition to Nile’s already impressive discography.
