My Own Grave – Necrology (2009)

cover

My Own Grave hails from Sweden and “Necrology” marks the band’s second full length release. The band plays a melodic mix of Trash and Death Metal and they are pretty average at it.

“Necrology”,in the same tradition that bands of this style have, features 11 songs and only 33 minutes of music. The band is pretty good at combining both genres, but it’s fairly generic when it comes to writing songs.

The combination of growls and harsh vocals is probably my favorite element of this release. The riffing is pretty solid, but nothing extremely creative or even original. The drumming is pretty intense and very good, making it one of the ‘most appealing’ elements of this release.

The problem in this release is not the quality, since “Necrology” is a very solid release of for this genre, however, the band’s music is very similar to all the other band’s out there and it provides nothing else other than a good release ‘of the same thing’. If you like good Trash/Death Metal, then you will surely like this release, but if you are looking for something original, then skip this one and look somewhere else.
