Power Pellut – Power Pellut (2009)

cover

After years of getting either digital or pressed promos I got a few CD-R’s lately and I was pretty ‘scared’ about playing, since I remember few years ago, when I got a CD-R it was because the band’s usually sucked. However this month I have been impressed by all CD-R’s received, and since this album came from I’m Better Than Everyone Records, that releases only vinyl by the way, and I had just reviewed “Hexagon” by Black Skies, I was willing to give it a real chance.

Power Pellut is an American band that, like Black Skies, plays Sludge Metal and it’s also pretty good at their style. Their self titled album features songs with very interesting titles like: “Corky’s Revenge” and “Neato Bandito”.

The band’s sound is very well defined and if you get hooked into it since the first song, you won’t be able to stop listening to this album. The chugging combination of bass guitar and guitar riffs is close to Sludge nirvana, and never gets tired, a common problem I have with Sludge albums.

The overall album’s production is designed (so I think) to highlight that grittiness of the band’s sound as you can hear from the bass/guitar combo, and then you can hear the drum track which is crystal clear. I think this is one of the most important features in current Sludge albums that they need to capture the feeling of the music, while not sounding like total shit.

Featuring witty songs, good guitar riffs and pretty fitting vocals, this release is one of favorite Sludge releases of 2009, so if you are a Sludge fan and a vinyl collector, go to the band’s label to get yourself this album before they ran out of copies.
