Dö – Den (2015)

cover

Hailing from Finland, today we have riff-masters Dö, presenting their EP titled “Den”. In this release, the trio delivers Roadburn-caliber music divided into four songs with different moods. With tons and tons of bands playing Doom/Stoner Metal, it is quite rare to find ones that really make the impression that Dö manages to make in less than 35 minutes.

Opening with the mysterious intro to “From the Worms”, the band explodes into full riffing mode with a wall of sound that is nicely complemented by the harsh vocals. There are plenty of solid tempo changes that give this track enough variety for a good dose of headbanging. The band continues their musical onslaught with the crushing “Frostbites” and its old-school Death/Doom vibe. The raspy vocals perfectly fit the retro Death/Doom vibe.

The album continues to flow with the crunchy riffs and interesting Southern Rock-inspired solos and vibe of “Hex”. “The Moon Follows Us” closes the release with a Sludge/Stoner Metal edge, while maintaining the bands unique wall of sound and playful bass guitar line. Overall, “Den” features four very consistent tracks that showcase interesting ideas and solid musicianship to deliver them. If you are in the market for some Doom/Stoner Metal, give this outfit a try.
