Inmoria - Invisible Wounds (2009)

cover

Inmoria hails from Sweden and the band features members from Tad Morose and Morgana Lefay, after reading this I was very interested in listening to “Invisible Wounds”, they debut album.

While the whole album features a very interesting mixture of Power and Dark Metal, and the keyboards create haunting melodies that are perfectly complemented by choirs, it lacks depth and after listening to 4-5 songs it becomes a bit dull and repetitive.

Don’t get me wrong “Invisible Wounds” has very good songs and a very good attempt at departing the usual type of music played by the band members. The problem with this album is that it drags after a few songs. It still has great and memorable songs but the ‘filler’ songs just drown the whole effort. The drum track is pretty standard and the guitar riffs at first instance sound pretty good, but after listening to them over and over in all songs they loose all their charm.

Morgana Lefay’s vocalist Charles Rytkönen provides a it’s signature vocals on top of the previously mentioned haunting atmospheres making this band’s sound very unique and different from other Power Metal bands or bands mixing the same to genres like Adagio, but it’s not enough to save the album of the constant circles of mid-tempo riffs. The use of sound effects is a very interesting addition that would have worked better if the repetitive nature of the songs would not get on the way.

For a debut album of a band featuring unknown band members would have been a great start, but for the caliber of musician’s featured in this album, it seems pretty weak in comparison to their work with other bands. That aside Inmoria shows enough promise in their interesting mixture of genres and we hope to listen to a very improved second album from this band.
