Velvet Seal – Lend Me Your Wings (2009)

cover

“Lend Me Your Wings” is the bombastic debut of Velvet Seal, a very good Gothic metal band from Hungary.  This album features 9 tracks providing 35 minutes of top notch Gothic metal that will definitely help this band get noticed and win them a great deal of fans.

Velvet Seal’s sound is very well defined and perfectly executed, having clear influences of After Forever (riffs in “Torn Within”), as well as other established metal bands in the genre.

The overall music sound can be considered ‘standard’ for the genre, and by this we mean that is very good in quality and composition. The heavy use of synthesizers in this album makes a beautiful and complex listening experience that will make listeners go back and listen to the songs over an over in order to notice all the details hidden within them.

The drumming, bass and guitar work is pretty good and provides a good enough structure to not be missed and also to highlight the vocals and synths. While not the most original we’ve heard, it’s very well executed and keeps the music together in perfect harmony.

One thing that makes this band stand out is the powerful and yet melodic vocals of Gabriella, that provide enough originality to not confuse this band with any other. All vocal arrangements in this album are very well overlaid so you can have a rich aural experience.

“Lend Me Your Wings” is a very solid release of a promising your band (formed in 2006), we hope the band continues to find their own unique sound and exploit their best elements to create something that will truly help them make an impact in the Gothic metal scene. But for now, this is an album that is a must have for any fan of the genre, and shows enough promise to keep an eye on this band.
