After their impressive 2014 release “Street Lights Fail”, Nucleus Torn returns with one last perplexingly beautiful release titled “Neon Light Eternal”. Featuring three songs and clocking in at around 40 minutes of music, Fredy Schnyder’s experimental outfit delivers one hell of a swan song. If you though the band’s last releases have been weird, you are in for quite an experience with this one. Opening with the mellow and Jazzy “A Declaration of Mistrust”, we instantly get a glimpse of Anna Murphy’s enchanting vocals. This track again reminded us of a mixture of Lethe with Tenhi/Empyrium thanks to the dramatic Neo-Folk passages weaved into this track. The whole proggy/jazzy vibe in this track is amazing, and considering it lasts 22 minutes, we are very amused at the wide variety of elements and influences introduced throughout that keep the song fresh and engaging. Ripping through some Death Metal chugging riffs, “Nothing Between You and Death” starts in the most unexpected manner…. luckily we are accustomed to expect the unexpected with Nucleus Torn. This track perfectly blends the heavy riffs into the jazzy/proggy vibe from the first song, until it goes even more atmospheric nearing its end. The level of creativity and complexity in these songs is quite amazing and a total feat that so many different things are meshed so well together. The last track “Street Lights Fail” perfectly continues the very relaxing and mysterious mood, filling the air with a very subtle piano and dramatic string instruments. This track is a lot more reserved and bleak than the first two. This album completes the two part conceptual trilogy that was started with “Street Lights Fail”, and we you listen to both of them one after the other the magic of their music is even sweeter. We are sad to see Nucleus Torn go, but their musical legacy is quite impressive and will be forever available to everybody. Be sure to get a copy of this release and profoundly enjoy the last output from this amazing outfit. |
