O Graceful Musing’s Burden - im draußen bricht sich das drinnen (2015)

Arriving in a beautifully hand-crafted package, today we have “im draußen bricht sich das drinnen” from the German band O Graceful Musing’s Burden (OGMB). In this very atmospheric release, we are treated to around 50 minutes of very emotional and magical music. Perfectly blending Post-Rock soundscapes with some Folk and Post-Metal/Post-Black Metal outburst, the band continues to refine their very unique sound with the powerful release.

Opening with the expansive “Nuboeiro Acrarante”, the band slowly builds tension with very sparse drums and playful guitar licks. With some parts in this track having Post-Black Metal levels of viciousness, the band manages to perfectly carve a unique listening experience through all their musical influences in under 16 minutes.

On “Inward Passage” the band changes the pace a bit and starts with a droney and atmospheric opening for several minutes with some clean spoken sections added into the mix. This track’s catharsis is delivered in the form of frantic riffs and crushing drumming. Being no strangers to a perfect blend of brutality with space and ambiance, the band further exploits their skills in this very dramatic piece.

As the release comes to a close with the very cinematic and complex “Ianus”, we are still in awe by the band’s excellent composition skills that allow all tracks to flow freely while they incorporate all kinds of different elements and stiles in their music. In this track we particularly find interesting the percussions and the very Post-Rock-ish closing few minutes. Overall, OGMB have managed to impress us beyond what they did a few years back with their “Two” release. The band has a very polished sound and all elements come together in great harmony to create lush music that will haunt you for days. If you are looking for a mixture of atmospheric Post-Rock with heavier elements and no vocals (besides the clean passages), this is one release that should be in your collection.
