Centinex – Redeeming The Filth (2014)

cover

In a year filled with killer Death Metal releases from genre greats like Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Abysmal Dawn, etc., it is still quite easy to distinguish the legendary Centinex from the rest. Returning after an 8 year hiatus, this Swedish outfit arrives with a vengeance and one of the best Swedish Death Metal releases in years. Martin Schulman has managed to come back with a very strong lineup and a killer sound that will snap necks in the mosh pit.

Blasting right through with “When Bodies Are Deformed”, we get those groovy old-school Swedish Death Metal riffs since the opening seconds. As the tracks progress and we get catchy pieces like “Most Purple Skin” and “Death Glance”, we are reminded why bands like Grave conquered the Death Metal genre back in the day. Featuring Alexander Högbom of October Tide on vocals, this band captures the essential retro vibe, but puts a crystal clear production on top of greatly polished music.

Short, catchy and brutal is what Death Metal tracks should be and on “Stone of Choice”, “Bloodraze”, and “Without Motives” Centinex delivers just the right amount of riffs and growls to make fans head bang from beginning to end. Filled with crushing riffs and tight druming, “Rotting Below” and “Eye Sockets Empty” are one of our favorite tracks in this excellent release. Overall, “Redeeming the Filth” is definitely one of the better Death Metal releases of 2014. If you are a fan of Centinex and Swedish Death Metal, you should definitely get a copy of this crushing album.
