Blut Aus Nord – Memoria Vetusta III – Saturnian Poetry (2014)

cover

Fresh after completing their 777 trilogy, Blut Aus Nord returns with another part of their Memoria Vetusta saga titled “Saturnian Poetry”. Moving away from the electronic/experimental elements introduced in the 777 releases, the band returns to their Black Metal roots with seven devastating tracks that will re-capture the attention of the band’s most purist fans.

After setting the mood with an atmospheric prelude, the devastation begins with the furious “Paien” and its nearly 8 minutes of blistering riffing and savage shrieks. The band invokes some epic melodic riffing passages on “Tellus Mater”, perfectly accentuated with guitar leads and clean Viking Metal-esque vocals; we also get an early Borknagar vibe in this intense track.

Delivering waves of headbanging passages, “Forhist” is one of our favorite tracks in this release due to its tempo changes and intricate elements that greatly transform the song as the minutes go by. We again get the epic clean vocals that nicely add to the atmospheric side of the band’s sound, reminding us of bands like Thyrfing. The Borknagar vibe returns with the intense “Henosis” and its blistering drumming, a similar tempo follows with the epic “Metaphor of the Moon” and its killer melodic passages.

The intensity never lets go with the ravishing closer “Clarissima Mundi Lumina”. With the band moving away from their experimental stuff from their 777 works, we are left with an intense release that will crush you from the moment it start till the last riff. “Memoria Vetusta III – Saturnian Poetry” is an album that every Blut Aus Nord fan should have, and will surely headbang to, for a very long time.
