[ówt krì] – The New Seed (2013)

cover

With Alrealon releases being so few in between all the stuff we get, we were quite excited to receive [ówt krì]’s “The New Seed”. As a one member outfit, this ‘band’ delivers chilling Ambient music with a very unique sense of space and time. If you like trippy music that slowly unravels before your ears in a very passive and expansive manner, this is one of those releases that will keep you at the edge of your seat.

The first two tracks “Deep South” and “The New Seed” nicely set the stage in a very ethereal and direct way. Both songs remind us of the music they play on documentaries of stargazing and the deep ends of the universe. The piano at the end of the second song is quite magical and one of the highlight of this release. In a darker mood, “On Hostile Ground” and “Abandoned Path” deliver a harsher experience. The vocals are quite penetrating and the guitars are very dissonant, creating a very unique sense of urgency.

Everything goes back to mellow and dreamy with the peaceful “Dance in Silence”, a five minute track of pure relaxation. “We Sleep Forever” comes back at you with more interesting distorted vocals and nifty effects that make them even weirder. Continuing with the distorted guitars and unsettling mood, “Confrontations” is another heavy and harsh song that continues to disrupt the harmony of the initial few songs. Our favorite track in this release is the slightly Avant-garde “Darker Sensation”, a song that feels like we are listening to people in an insane asylum with an even creepier musical backdrop.

As the album draws to a close, the atmospheric tension is nicely elevated by very unique ethereal elements on “The Sirens Call”. This song sounds like somebody went a bit crazy with a Theremin, giving it that weird mystical and mysterious vibe. As a whole, “The New Seed” is a tour de force in terms of mood swings. While most releases in the genre either never reach a climax or the only reach it once, this album has more than a few moments of climax and slow buildup to the next one. Kenneth K is the person behind [ówt krì], and we have to say that he does an excellent job in crafting unique atmospheres and interesting musical progressions. We have to recommend this excellent release to anybody interested in experimental Ambient/ Dark Ambient music.
