Autumnblaze – Every Sun is Fragile (2013)

cover

The killer releases of summer of 2013 keep piling up with Autumnblaze delivering the long awaited “Every Sun is Fragile”. With an ever changing musical style, the German outfit delivers a very heartfelt Depressive/Post-Rock album that is filled with amazingly catchy songs and very melancholic atmospheres. Pushing their sound even further than on “Perdition Diaries”, fans of Green Carnation to Gothic Rock outfits will love this release instantly.

Markus Baltes has really pushed the band’s sound over the years but with the opener “New Ghosts in Town”, the listener will immediately know how far they have gone now. There are almost no harsh vocals, and the music is mostly on the Rock side of things, however, there are still some Metal influences present. This track is quite dramatic and thanks to the imposing clean vocals the overall atmosphere is quite dramatic. As heard on “Invisible Fields”, the band guitars are still quite catchy making the music perfect for some heavy duty headbanging.

It is quite impressive how simple riffs like on “Im Spiegel” make the band’s music so damn catchy and engaging. Sounding like an Indie Rock artists, “Mein Engel, Der Aus Augen Fließt” is probably the most ‘accessible’ track in this release for mass consumption. The band’s transformation somewhat reminds us of how Anathema was slowly getting away from Metal in the times of their “A Fine Day To Exit” album. Our favorite track is the powerful “Every Sun is Fraglie”, a song that features quite heavy guitars nicely contrasted by a very mellow pace and vibe.

The heaviest track has to be “Cold Soul” and its pounding guitars paired with both clean and harsh vocals. The soaring vocals at points remind us of Enrique Bunbury of Héroes del Silencio fame. Our favorite track is the riff-tastic “A Place for Paper Diamonds”, thanks to Markus and Andreas Schuler crafty guitar skills. Closing with the emotional “Verglimmt”, we can’t help but thinking of Green Carnation thanks to how this song is quite atmospheric, yet direct and simple at the same time.

As this fine release comes to a close, we can’t help but think: damn this is extremely awesome. Autumnblaze since their 2008 return have delivered two excellent releases and “Every Sun if Fragile” went above and beyond our (very high) expectations for this band. If you like melancholic rock with some Metal sprinkles, look no further and pick up a copy of this gem.
