The Psycho Season – Unwilling (2013)

cover

Delivering a small dose of catchy Hard Rock with some Metal elements, today we have Finland’s The Psycho Season and their EP titled “Unwilling”. In this superbly catchy four song EP, the band captures the listener attention by playing straight forward music that instigates some heavy duty headbanging.

The album opens with a wave of powerful guitar riffs and catchy vocals in “Unwilling”. This track has a vibe very similar to bands like Chrome Division and similar acts that have that Hard Rock edge with some Southern Rock/Metal influences. The band’s vocalist does an excellent job in providing a staple sound to The Psycho Season. “Preposterous War” delivers more catchy riffs and tight drumming that shows the band’s musical maturity and excellent skills in writing simple yet effective music.

In a heavier fashion, “Truth Comes Out” is our favorite track in this EP thanks to the very effective vocals paired to perfection with the tracks up-beat tempo. As in any Hard Rock release, this song features solid guitar leads and a playful bass guitar line that make things more interesting and catchy. The closer “Ill-Fated Man” opens with a Metal edge that reminded us a bit of Carcass when they switched to Melodic Death Metal minus the harsh vocals. The song immediately mellows out into a full-on Hard Rock anthem.

Being quite short, “Unwilling” leaves us with quite a good impression and with high-hopes of what will The Psycho Season bring to the table in the future. If you like bands like Chrome Division, The New Black and such acts, this is one release you don’t want to miss.
