Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Saivon Lapsi (2013)

cover

As one of the most awaited releases of 2013, today we have Eternal Tears of Sorrow and their seventh full-length release “Saivon Lapsi”. With the band aging very well with time, this release is indeed their best album to date. With their signature Melodic Death Metal with Gothic elements sound, the 11 tracks presented in this release show the band’s maturity and their ability to craft epic songs that are both aggressive and emotional.

Immediately after the intro, the band sails full-steam ahead with the powerful “Dark Alliance”. EToS traditional riffing immediately shines when paired with the atmospheric keyboards and the very elaborate vocal arrangements. Altti Veteläinen growls are as good as ever and they are very well complemented by Jarmo Kylmänen’s clean pipes, a staple in the band’s sound since 2004. The keyboard orchestrations are as impressive as ever and elevate the band’s sound majestically.

“Legion of Beast” keeps things flowing with excellent melodic passages and haunting vocals, a very typical EToS track that will have all the fans of the band headbanging immediately. After a little break in the flow of the album with “Kuura”, the band delivers “Dance of December” one of our favorite tracks in this release. The dramatic keyboards in this song make it a very emotional track that is very well offset by the excellent riffs provided by Mika Lammassaari and Jarmo Puolakanaho. The soaring vocals make this track even more epic when everything comes together in beautiful harmony.

The symphonic “The Day” really gets the listeners attention thanks to the emotional vocal arrangements and how they are contrasted by the powerful guitars (and awesome solos) and the over the top keyboards. The ballad-esque “Sound of Silence” delivers very emotional vocal (clean male and female) performances paired with lush keyboard arrangements. Featuring a darker and still very bombastic mood, “Beneath The Frozen Leaves” is one of the most interesting and intricate tracks in this release.

With a weird Nightwish-esque style, “Swan Saivo” is a very engaging track that will hook you immediately. This song features all the signature EToS elements and is another one of our favorites in this release. Our absolute favorite track in this album has to be the very elaborate “Angelheart Ravenheart”. Clocking in at 7:30 minutes, this track has a very effective progression from heavy riffs to more epic vocal lines and very determined guitar solos. The band has been crafting tracks like this one over the years and they never cease to amaze us.

As you could have probably imagined by now, we are completely blown away by the awesomeness of “Saivon Lapsi”. The band has managed to outdo themselves once more and we immediately forgot about the long wait for this release. If you are a fan of EToS or Melodic/Gothic Death Metal, this is one release you cannot afford to miss, so be sure to pre-order your copy right now.
