I Lied – World Insane (2013)

cover

Arriving from Violent Journey Records, today we have Finish outfit I Lied and their super catchy Death/Thrash Metal in “World Insane”. Originally a self-financed EP, this release is too catchy to pass and we are quite glad that the band got a label to release it to a wider audience. Delivering five tracks covering 19 minutes, this album features tons of catchy riffs and a very old-school attitude behind its music.

Opening with a Mortician-style intro, “Beaten Zone” immediately delivers powerful guitars and super catchy hooks. The vocals are very typical of the genre and they are very well balanced between growls and screams. Moving on to a more melodic approach, “Total Self Hatred” keeps the riffing onslaught alive with incisive guitars and tight drumming. There are plenty of superb headbaning moments in this track as well.

“This Shit Called Life” is our favorite track thanks to the band’s continuity in the excellent riffs department. There are some epic melodic sections as well, so keep an eye for this neck-pain inducing anthem. “Lizzard” dreams has a Thrashier vibe and we totally dig how the band can change their style a bit and still deliver solid songs. “World Insane” closes this release with one last powerful dosage of catchy riffs and very well constructed drumming; we particularly enjoyed the very natural progression of this song.

Overall, “World Insane” is the perfect introduction to the band’s excellent song writing abilities. All songs are short enough to deliver powerful riffing and crushing singing in a small period of time, but still satisfy the listener thanks to the catchiness of their structures. If you are in the market for some headbanging Death/Thrash Metal with an old-school vibe and a modern production, look no further and pick up this EP.
