Klogr – Till You Decay (2012)

cover

Arriving from Italy, today we have Klogr and their very dynamic and intense debut full-length “Till You Decay”. It is instantly evident that huge amount of work (and money) has been put into this very well crafted release. The production is as good as it gets and everything sounds as if you had the band playing in your living room (or car). Featuring eleven tracks of a hybrid between alt-rock and Alternative/Modern Metal, the songs presented here are very well balanced between the genres and deliver a very rich aural experience.

Opening with “Live Dying”, the band uses a melodic approach to lure the listener into their highly diverse sound. As the pounding guitars make their presence felt, that alt rock/Metal vibe is immediately present. The band’s vocalist (and guitarists) Rusty has a very strong and engaging voice, that while very commercial sounding, it gets the job done and nicely leads the songs in this release. The highly melodic “Silk and Thorns” shows a different side of the band, and a very catchy one indeed.

The heavy “White Eyes” has a small Southern Rock vibe to it, and very heavy guitars with a few solos here and there, making it one of our favorite songs in this release. With a calmer and ‘weirder’ vibe, “Green Star” nicely builds up and climaxes very nicely. Our favorite track has to be the epic “Naked Mind”, a song that is quite mellow and drops a few hints of technical wizardry while keeping things interesting and fresh. The progressive edge of “Value of Sin” gives extra creativity points to the band for nicely fusing even more influences into their melting pot of sounds.

Saving the most mellow and trippiest song of the release for last, “Young Graves” nicely closes the release with a solid build-up and then some excellent riffs adorned by powerful vocals. This bi-country band (some members are from the USA as well) has done a great job in crafting a catchy and direct sound that embraces so many different musical genres.

With the current state of modern Metal music stuck in the Core-crap stuff and the alternative rock scene going for a hipster vibe to score some money, it is refreshing to hear bands like Klogr. Their debut release “Till Your Decay” is hunderds of times better than most of the alternative crap we get every week, so if you are looking for something a bit slower than your average Metal release, but not as hipster as your typical Alt-Rock album, give Klogr a try.
