Necrovation – Necrovation (2012)

cover

Delivering one of the darkest and most evil sounding releases of 2012, today we have Necrovation and their self-titled sophomore release. With nine tracks and around 45 minutes of crushing brutality, each of the tracks in this release features a very dark and cavernous atmosphere that is rarely matched by anything we have heard this year and reminds us of the crazy atmospheres created by bands like Shinning (Sweden) and Bethlehem.

Delivering the first blast full of hate with “Necrovorous Insurrection”, this release opens with a bang. Featuring an old-school raw Death Metal vibe, the Swedish influences are extremely clear in this epic track. The quality riffing makes this song even more enjoyable, and the crystal clear production makes brings the full experience to your speakers. The intoxicating rhythms of “Dark Lead Dead” make this very weird song extremely intoxicating indeed.

The drumming in this album is very diverse and in some of the slower passages it’s just brilliant, like on “Pulse of Towering Madness”. Perfectly thrown into the mix of songs like “New Depths” we have brilliant tempo changes, sometimes very Black Metal-ish in nature, but nicely fitting the overall atmosphere of this record. Our favorite track in this release is the highly experimental “The Transition”. Starting with some interesting clean guitars, this track suddenly transforms into an intoxicating Black Metal passage, marking a brilliant transition and creating a twisted atmosphere.

Closing with “Ill Mouth Madness (The Many)”, the guitars go haywire with some twisted solos and very tight riffs. The drumming is also pretty well-crafted and nicely adds to the thick atmosphere of this song. The vocals throughout this release are pretty strong, and while nothing special, they fit the overall mood of the music perfectly.

As one of the best releases that Agonia has released this 2012, we highly recommend all fans of Death Metal with some BM influences to get this release and start moshing. Necrovation is an excellent band and their music speaks for itself in this excellent album.
