Tramortiria – Wrath among the Dead (2012)

cover

Arriving from Italy with their crunchy guitar sound and their crafty song writing abilities, today we have Tramortiria’s debut full-length release “Wrath among the Dead”. With so many Thrash Metal bands popping out these days, it is good to hear one that actually has decent music for a change. Featuring over 45 minutes of catchy music, “Wrath among the Dead” is one of those releases you can’t afford to miss if you are a Thrash Metal fan.

Opening with the atmospheric intro “Dust”, the band fully settles in their own style with the crushing “1936”. This song features very powerful and crunchy guitars that are nicely complemented by a pulsating bass guitar line and very tight drumming. The vocals are strong and nicely put together to fit the overall power behind the music. The instrumental “Earth Attack” nicely continues the onslaught of catchy riffs with almost 3 minutes of very well crafted and groovy music. This song in turn bleeds into “World of Fashion”, a track that sounds just like something that Dark Angel, Kreator, or any other Thrash Metal great would have belted out back in the day.

The band’s clear strength is their ability to craft very effective and catchy riffs that sound just like a mixture of the old-school Thrash Metal releases and some of the more modern albums the legendary bands have whipped out recently. Tony De Marco’s vocals are excellent and on songs like “Morrow” they fill the track with just enough aggression without going into full screaming mode. The ballad-esque “Face to Face” shows a more melodic side of the band with excellent guitar leads and atmospheric sections.

Our favorite track of this release is the very powerful “Deep Forest Night”. The guitar work of Fabio Cantone and De Marco is impeccable and creates a very groovy song without sounding too modern in nature. The only song we completely disagree with in this release is the crazy “Blood Buster”. While it gets better with time, the ridiculous opening and closing ‘brutal’ sections totally killed it for us. If the drummer Simone Bosi wanted to show off, maybe a drum solo would have been a better place to do so.

In general, we think that Tramortiria is indeed one hell of a band. Their songs are very well crafted and extremely engaging. Their sound is just the right amount of new and old, without ever compromising the power of their guitars. We wish there would be more bands like this one releasing debut albums that are nearly perfect. If you like Thrash Metal and are ready to welcome one more band to your collection, this is the release you should be getting.
