Eisregen – Rostrot (2011)

cover

Completely deranged and always surprising people (as well as pissing them off), Eisregen delivers their latest creation titled “Rostrot”. In this crazy album we have 10 very unique songs that focus a bit more on the ‘melodic’ side of Eisregen and fit more to our personal taste than their previous release. If you like the contrast the band makes between the demonic vocals and aggressive lyrics with keyboard sections and funky melodies, this is the album you have been waiting for since “Krebskolonie” came out back in 1998 (our personal favorite).

The opener “Erlösung” delivers a mood setting piano/spoken words track that is nicely offset by the hectic “Schakal: Ode an die Streubombe”. Pounding drums and heavy guitars makes this song a very typical Eisregen piece and a nice contrast from the opening and following tracks. The rhythm of “Madenreich” is pretty weird and feels like something we would find in an Indie-Rock album but it works very well with the clean vocals. The deranged approach to music that Eisregen has makes this song work wonderfully.

The epic “Ich Sah Den Teufel” immediately became our second most-favorite track from Eisregen since the song “Krebskolonie”, because of its perfect tempo and nice combination of clean vocals and keyboard sections perfectly contrasted by aggressive passages. The weirdness continues with the very memorable “Kathu Das Kuchenschwein” and its atmospheric passages and interesting rhythms. The same goes for “Fahles Ross”, showing the melodic side of the Eisregen beast. This melodic side alone will make us always enjoy any Eisregen release since we never know what to expect from their songs.

Closing the 49 minutes of music provided by “Rostrot” we have the album titled track. In this song the band nicely increases the momentum and delivers a very melodic piece that will sound a bit strange to some, but once Blutkehle vocals make their way you know everything is alright. If you like the melodic side of Eisregen, this is the release for you since the majority of the album lingers in this style. However, there are a few songs that feature their full-blown power as well, so fans of the aggressive side of the band should also give it a shot.
