If Neal Morse’s Testimony 2 – Live in Los Angeles DVD’s where not enough for a dosage of excellent prog, the same promo package we got included Transatlantic’s “More Never Is Enough: Live In Manchester & Tilburg 2010” DVD portion of the release, for another 3+ hours of orgasm-inducing musical experience.
The live DVD portion of this release features the complete Tilburg concert in all its glory and with seven professional cameras rolling. It also showcases the full band with the extra addition of Daniel Gildenlöw from Pain of Salvation. If you are a big fan of the band’s music and their latest release “The Whirlwind”, the first DVD shows the band playing this release in its entirety.
As we mentioned before, “The Whirlwind” is very nicely performed in the first set of this last show and it is very impressive listen to the band pull this off in the live setting, since we think that the studio version of this album was almost perfection incarnate. As any prog fan knows, this release is one of the finest albums of the genre and watching it played live is just impressive.
The second DVD focuses on some of the band’s hits like the massive epics “All Of The Above”, “Duel With The Devil” and “Stranger In Your Soul”. These songs feature all the little intricacies that made them excellent studio songs and the energetic collaboration of Daniel Gildenlöw as well. All the brilliant harmonies and solos are there as well.
As an extra we have the “Stranger Jams” section where you get to see a Neal Morse taking charge of the drums while Mike Portnoy goes stage diving and other different crazy things. This gives you a bigger perspective of the band’s tours and shows the fan those little details that make particular live performances legendary and more special. We particularly enjoyed this aspect of the live release showing how the band truly has fun interacting with the crowd and making each show a unique experience.
With an excellent video and audio quality, we feel that this is THE release for fans of Transatlantic to have. The tracks are perfectly executed in all their glory, the footage is brilliantly edited, and the band’s performance is highly energetic, we can’t really think of anything that is wrong with this excellent release that will make countless prog fans happy for hours.
