Mord'A'Stigmata – Antimatter (2011)

cover

Hailing from Poland, today we have Mord’A’Stigmata and their monumental Avant-garde Black Metal release “Antimatter”. In this album the band delivers 52 minutes of pure chaotic Black Metal that will blow you away and make you scratch your head at the same time. We are huge fans of Avant-garde BM and “Antimatter” is one of the finest examples we have heard this 2011.

Opening with a weird intro, the album fully kicks in with “Kinetic Dogma” and “De Magnum Opus Solis”, two very hellish and powerful straight-up Black Metal tracks that feature some interesting elements here and there, but mostly devastating vocals, dissonant guitars and a powerful and tornado-like atmosphere. The devastation continues with “Antimatter”, but here is where things start turning somewhat melodic leading up to the ‘weirder’ things in this release.

In “Metatron and the Waters” the band moves into the derrangedness of Avant-garde Black Metal territories by crafting sick guitar-driven atmospheres that nicely blend with the harsh vocals, and create very disturbing eerie sounds. Brutality returns with “Serpent Salvation” in the shape of blasting drums and powerful riffs, but you still have that little atmospheric edge that nicely separates this song from your ‘typical’ fast Black Metal songs.

With “...it Writes the names of Ghosts” the sickness continues thanks to sharp guitar riffing that creates a very powerful atmosphere, and if you ask us, this is how we feel hell sould feel like. Clean vocals make their appearance in this song and while not extremely good, they are still powerful enough to nicely add something to the mix. In a similar fashion to Arcturus and Vulture Industries, “Theophagia” and “Eternity is Pregnant” deliver that weirdness to Black Metal that only a few bands can achieve. The dissonant atmospheric elements paired with distorted guitars and hellish vocals generate a truly disturbing feeling… just like Black Metal should do.

If you like truly disturbing Black Metal, “Antimatter” is the perfect release for you. Having a glossy booklet, the album’s inserts are equally weird and brilliant at the same time. Mord'A'Stigmata has managed to create a monumental release in the genre of Avant-garde Black Metal so you better not miss it. We can’t recommend enough this release to all fans of weird and interesting Black Metal.
