Lebowski – Cinematic (2010)

cover

As one of the most ambitious self-released albums we have received in years, we have Lebowski’s musical opus “Cinematic”. In this release, the band culminates a 5 year writing process in the shape of a sound track to a non-existent movie as they put it. Being the band’s first full-length release, we are sure they will turn some heads along the way with such a professional and rich production.

The variety of textures created by the moods and instruments is outstanding, all the elements come together magically in such a way that you can visualize the atmospheres created by the band in each of the 10 songs presented in this release.

Since the first song “Trip to Doha”, you get the feeling that this release will be something special. The layering of the keyboards, samples and instruments is just presented in a near perfect way involving the listener. The guitars give that ethereal sound to this release and keep things within the confines of Post/Prog Rock and hook the listener into paying more attention.

The use of several instruments such as violins, sax, different kinds of pianos, choirs, and samples make this album a very rich listening experience and allows the CD to have high-replay value in order to fully appreciate everything that is going on.

While every song has its charm, we have to say that tracks like “Encore”, “Iceland” and “Spirit Machine” are the best in this release. They all feature different atmospheres, but somehow manage to maintain the band’s peculiar sound. Each of them (and the whole album songs) are briefly described in the liner notes of the CD, allowing the listener to get an inside look into these great songs.

We have to agree that we were completely intoxicated with every song in this release and thanks to the easy listening nature of this album we can listen to it all day long. If you are looking for something very heavy or more ‘normally structured’ then look somewhere else, “Cinematic” has a soundtrack-like feeling to it that will leave you mesmerized from beginning to end.
