Negligence – Coordinates of Confusion (2010)

cover

This 2010 we got monumental Thrash Metal releases by legendary bands like Exodus, Forbidden, Death Angel, etc, so it’s very hard to find any newcomer band that can easily be compared to these great bands and their high quality releases Hailing from Slovenia, today we have Negligence, a band that might not have the same impressive trajectory of Exodus and Death Angel, but they can still play some mean Thrash Metal and look good while doing it.

While “Coordinates of Confusion” might not be an extreme original album, it still has enough quality to maybe sneak into some top 10 of 2010 lists in the genre. The musicianship and songwriting behind this release is superb, creating a very entertaining release that will surely please the most demanding fans of the genre.

Wasting to time, the band quickly sets into 5th gear with “Mind Decay”, a very fast paced and excellently written opening track. With crushing drumming and impressing riffing, the band shows what they are made of immediately. The Alex’s vocals are very fitting for the style of music and greatly enhance the music, since for us some vocalists like Schmier should not be allowed to sing.

Most of the band’s songs are very typical of the genre, but they are very well written and brilliantly executed, setting Negligence ahead of tons of other Thrash Metal bands. Another thing going in favor of “Coordinates of Confusion” is that the album flows very nicely and with songs like “The Way To…” the band nicely breaks the monotony of the release.

The guitar work in this release is excellent and on songs like “Insane Asylum” and “Coordinates of Confusion”, the band goes all out with catchy riffs and brilliant solos. The drumming is also very impressive and keeps things together very tightly, we particularly like “The Q Box” when it comes to solid drumming. Every instrument comes together with a very efficient mix, adding to the overall effect generated by the album. The production sounds very straightforward keeping things very neat and old-school sounding, but with a modern clarity.

In general, Negligence might not be as good as Exodus or Death Angel… yet. The band has enough quality to keep getting better with time, so we expect better things from them in the future. If you are a Thrash Metal fan, and you have some money left after purchasing all the high-profile Thrash Metal releases of 2010, you should definitely check out this release since it will keep a smile in your face for the duration of the album.
