Dawn of Ashes – Genocide Chapters (2010)

cover

As one of the worst band’s we have reviewed in a while, today we have Dawn of Ashes and their superbly un-original “Genocide Chapters”. By the worst band denomination, we don’t mean that (most) of the musicians of Dawn of Ashes suck at their instrument, we are referring to their lack of creativity and their ability create filler music for almost the full duration of the release (since we actually liked one song on it).

Changing styles from Industrial/EBM to Melodic Black/Death Metal, Dawn of Ashes approaches Metal like clumsy nerdy kid about to have their first sexual experience: it’s sloppy, awkward and very unsatisfactory. The band’s attempt at creating a solid album gets quickly destroyed by their ridiculous Dimmu Borgir-esque approach to Black Metal, using persistent keyboard arrangements will not get you far if the rest of your music sucks.

The guitar riffing is as un-inspired as the dude that writes for The Cleveland Show on TV, and while the drumming is very solid, it sounds very out of place in this cluster-fuck of disarray. Some songs feel like tons of little pieces pasted together with pro-tools, and while the band ‘claims’ to leave their Industrial side in their past, you can still hear some of it present in this album.

The vocals are plain annoying, being highly distorted (or something) makes them sound very fake. Secondly, the song names are plain retarded (verify for yourself). The only half decent song is “London’s Anthem for the Please of Mutilation”, a very nice piece that has some solid riffing on top of tight drumming. But a song alone is not worth whatever price this CD has on it.

We really can’t recommend “Genocide Chapters” since we think it sucks. The band has a long way to go before they can actually write good songs (one out of 11 in this album). We can’t help but wonder how the hell this band got signed to Metal Blade in the first place. Avoid like if this band was a zombie hooker with all the STD’s in the world.
