Eisregen – Schlangensonne (2010)

cover

Eisregen is one of our all-time favorite bands, and they totally continue to be amazing with “Schlangensonne”. Waiting for them to play at 5 AM on With Full Force 2009 was completely justified since we have wanted to see this band live in ages. With their deranged musical style, “Schlangensonne” is yet another brilliant release to add into their already impressive discography.

The band receives a lot of shit from people that probably don’t understand what the band is all about. And there are always extremely mixed reviews when the band releases an album. Having 3 of their albums censored by the German ‘index’, you can see where this band gets their bad reputation.

Fanfare aside, the band always delivers a very solid musical product. Their songs range from deranged blistering attacks, to more melodic songs that are equally bizarre. We love the crazy vocals utilized in their albums since they range from desperation screams, growls, shrieks and even clean vocals. The music is equally diverse, we have brutal riffing and aggressive drumming on one hand, and on the other hand we get harmonious keyboard passages providing an excellent melody to the music.

In “Schlangensonne” the band continues with their exploits and their sound is fairly similar to when they started, the just dropped the violin around 2006, but the keyboard picked up the slack in this department. Michael Roth’s vocals are similar to none, and he delivers a very solid performance in each album. Moreover, when he takes the live stage is like a beast getting unleashed, at WFF 2009 he was jumping around all over the place, making it almost impossible to get a decent picture of him.

The guitar riffing and melodies are very basic, and sound very alike in every release giving them a truly characteristic sound. The drumming is intense, but nothing out of the ordinary. The keyboards are the second thing we love about this band, the melodies and atmosphere they create are unparalleled, and while they are very basic, they create the craft haunting atmospheres and very contrasting piano melodies that offset the deranged screams magically.

If you are a fan of Eisregen, you will LOVE “Schlangensonne”, it features the unique sound of the band for eleven brilliant tracks. If you are looking for a weird Dark Metal band, then jump right on the Eisregen train, you will NOT be disappointed.
