Interview with Crematory

Infernal Masquerade: What is the overall concept behind “Infinity”, if no concept what are the lyrics about?

Crematory: “INFINITY” isn't a concept-album and the lyrics have different themes. Maybe that some song fits into another but is wasn't planned as a concept-album. Felix, our singer writes the lyrics and he only knows the reasons for the theme-choice.:-)

I.M: Why do you think the band’s sound has not changed drastically over the years, but instead it has been slowly progressing?

We always have followed our own style and have been developing it during all the years. Our creativity has guided us to where we are without loosing our roots. We have always tried to include new styles in our songs keeping the main parts as our fans knew and loved it before. I think each band grows and gets adult during the years. Some keep their style others don't. We have kept it – this is our success.

I.M: Crematory has accomplished so much during its years of existence, what else do you want to achieve with the band?

There are not many things left to reach for us. The only thing we still want to realize is to have a number one hit! Maybe our new album “INFINITY” will take us to this goal!

I.M: The band has been bouncing around labels for quite a few times, why do you think this has happened? Which label have you felt the most comfortable working with?

It always was a question of what we needed for the actual album we were working on. Each label has its points and we used them to make the best possible working with them.
Another reason is of course the money. The label that pays more wins the fight.:-)
They are all really professional labels and we loved and still love working with them.

I.M: Since the band formed the Internet and technology has evolved enough to make music more accessible, easier to record and as the downside piracy has flourished, what is your opinion on this? Do you think these things had a positive impact on the scene, or do you think it has tainted the scene?

I think it is both – positive and negative. The positive side is that it has it made easier to get known and have fans all around the world. The negative thing is that the illegal downloads hurt the bands more than the so called “fans” who download the songs think. They steel money that belongs to the bands. If they would get this money many bands would be able to make their lives out of music. They also would have the chance to make bigger and more extended tours and some bands would be able to record following albums instead of vanishing into thin air. This “fans” kill bands and don't care about! That's really sad!

I.M: If you had to give one last performance before dying, what songs would you think you would play?

It is impossible for me to make this decision. I think it would take a long discussion with all band-members to get to a decision.

I.M: If you guys had unlimited money for a live performance, what props and stage set up would you use?

This is also a thing that would need a big discussion, because each band-member would prefer different things. I think it would be impossible to fulfill all the ideas in one show and it would need at least 50 shows to realize all the dreams.

I.M: Any touring planned for North America? Can you shed some details on this?

Our tour for our new album “INFINITY” is still being planned and I don't know yet if we will also be in North America. But if you know some promoters who could be interested in realizing some shows with us just tell them to contact or our booker.:-)
We want all our fans to come to our concerts and have a good time with us.
