Interview with Voices Of Destiny

Infernal Masquerade: Having formed in 2004 and released an excellent demo “Red Winter Storm” in 2007, the scored a recording deal with Massacre records. Can you tell us more about how this happened?
Voices Of Destiny: They discovered us on a concert and asked us for a demo-cd. A few days later they offered us a record deal. And that was pretty much everything :).

I.M: Voices of Destiny is a very powerful band name. How did you guys came up with it?
VoD: Actually it was a spontaneous idea to name our band “Voices of Destiny”. Our drummer Erik came up with it and we liked the sound and the meaning. It just fits the style of our music perfectly. Anyway we do not attach too much importance to the name. It's all about the music.

I.M: “From The Ashes” was released at the end of February, how do you think the fans and the press have reacted to this release? Were you satisfied with how the album came out?
VoD: In fact we are very satisfied since there were many positive reviews and reactions of fans and people from all over the world. This encourages us to work even harder on the new songs for our next album.

I.M: Can you tell us more about the concept and ideas behind “From The Ashes”? (also please tells us about the lyrics)
VoD: The lyrics of every single song have there very individual background and are connected to personal experiences. Most of them are about feelings, opinions and states of mind. Some other level criticism to the society and its effects on the earth.

The title “From the Ashes” and the complete album itself is a request and an encouragement to consider the results of past happenings and to start all over again. Additionally we just found it ironic to give our first album a title that sounds like a second chance or a rebirth although there was nothing before.

I.M: From all the female fronted Gothic Metal bands, what do you think makes Voices Of Destiny stand out?
VoD: Voices of Destiny combinates the aggression of fast drumbeats, heavy guitar riffs and grim shouts and growls with the beauty and somehow fragility of fine orchestra sounds and the beautiful voice of our singer Maike. These elements are in contrast with eachother over and over to make the listener fall into the different parts totally unexpected.
That's what we try to reach with our music.

I.M: Will you guys be experimenting with your sound in the future?
VoD: We do believe that we eventually are at the point where we found our style of music. So we won't be experimenting to much with our sound. According to the new songs we are working on at the moment the next album might be little more heavy and aggressive than “From the Ashes”.

I.M: Is there any touring planned in support of “From The Ashes”, maybe some festival dates?
VoD: Unfortunately, at this time it might be too early to talk about touring but we hope to be able to announce some bigger live shows in the near future.

I.M: What was the main idea behind forming the band? Did you guys ever expected to get signed and be releasing albums so ‘quickly’?
VoD: The main idea behind Voices of Destiny was and will always be to make the music we love and to have fun performing it. No more, no less.

We always hoped that we would get signed one day and were working on demo recordings all the time. But in the end it all happened very quickly. Especially the time between us signing the deal with Massacre Records and the releasing of 'From the Ashes' felt like nothing.

I.M: Anything else you want to add for your fans and our readers?
VoD: Hi out there, we are Voices of Destiny from Germany and we just came up with our debut album 'From the Ashes'. We gave our best to create a good metal album and hope you will enjoy listening to our music as we enjoyed producing it.

Keep rocking!

I.M: Thanks for the interview and good luck promoting the new album.
