The grand culmination of two cult demos, ARCKANUM's "Fran Marder" debut album put the band directly into the pantheon of "Black Metal classics". Originally released in 1995, "Fran Marder" occupied a headspace both parallel and perpendicular to the prevailing Scandinavian Black Metal scene. On one hand as grim and frostbitten as Norway's best, on the other exhibiting a fire and earthiness completely unique amongst the band's contemporaries, "Fran Marder" simply mesmerized with its subtly shifting hypnosis, all the while mainman Shamaatae spitting praises to Pan and the powers of chaos as if his very life depended upon it. And now, with exclusively remastered sound by Andy Classen, that palpitating venom becomes even more blanching, Pan's legions of chaos invoked even more severely.

Originally released in 1997, ARCKANUM's "Kostogher" is widely regarded as the band's transitional opus and, in the eyes of many, mainman Shamaatae's best work ever. Drawing from the hypnotic power of debut album "Fran Marder" but transposing a sumptuous bounty of nuance upon it, "Kostogher" roamed wild and free, Shamaatae placing no boundaries on his latent mysticism, the roiling undercurrent(s) of the most ancient Black Metal unshackled from their earthly prison(s). And now, with exclusively remastered sound courtesy of Andy Classen, those enfeebled shackles have been ground into dust, Shamaatae's lord Pan once again pleased with his servants' work.

Put simply, "Kampen" is ARCKANUM's magnum opus, and yet another certifiable Black Metal classic. Originally released in 1998, ARCKANUM laid bare all that came before and all that was to come: woodland mysticism, ancient bloodpacts, the groan of time echoing terror throughout the souls of those who don't heed the call of chaos. From wild, widescreen wanderlust to the pulsating grit of proto-Black Metal, "Kampen" ranges the vast experience - and even vaster hinterlands of the imagination - of mainman Shamaatae's psyche. And now, with exclusively remastered sound courtesy of Andy Classen, those hinterlands become vaster, the maw of chaos opening even wider.

One of the most unique and enigmatic black metal entities ever, ARCKANUM began life in that pivotal year of 1992, born into a world of chaos so as to channel those forces more deeply than others – and, above all, bring that chaos to life tenfold. A clutch of cult demos followed before a trilogy of sacrosanct albums that are the quintessence of Black Metal mysticism. Mainman Shamaatae doggedly pursued his singular vision of a world ruled by Pan, sitting upon a throne spreading chaotic freedom to his soldiers, before pulling the veil of secrecy down upon ARCKANUM by the end of the decade.

But alas, the fires of freedom continued to burn bright within Shamaatae, and sporadic recordings would emerge during the Noughties, culminating in his classic comeback "Antikosmos", which portrayed his vision as potently as ever and yet with a deeper understanding of chaos-magick, parlayed via a grittier take on the band’s mystical BM. "ÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞ", released this year, extended this grittier mysticism even further, rounding out the philosophy/soundworld of ARCKANUM and entrenching it even deeper within the annals of black metalled classicism. And Pan smiles knowingly upon his throne…
