The Abominable Iron Slot – The Id Will Overcome (2010)

cover

Hailing from several cities across the USA we have The Abominable Iron Slot or is it The Indomitable Iron slot?? Since they keep changing it we kind of lost track of it, but apparently the CD has the first name on its cover. Anyways, the band plays Sludge/Stoner Metal with as much inspiration as you can get from watching paint dry.

We usually like good releases in the Sludge/Stoner metal genre, but “The Id Will Overcome” is definitely not one of them. Using a massive amount of recycled riffs through this album, we feel the band’s inspiration was almost not existent and they just chugged out whatever they could come up in a few minutes.

There are 12 very disconnected tracks in this release that will turn this CD into your favorite party stopper album. We mean this in the way that all songs are very ‘weird’ (to put it nicely) and they do not fit very well with each other, as a badly assembled jigsaw puzzle. The music is sub-par at best and there are countless Sludge/Stoner Metal releases that we would greatly recommend instead of this big pile of nothing (check out Bison B.C or even Ichabod).

To avoid any unnecessary harshness we will stop at saying that this album offers pretty much nothing to the metal community and you should be cautious when buying. All songs get to be super dull, especially “Heterodox Nonconformists” which is kind of an ambient/drone song that feels even more out of place than the rest of the album.
