May the Silence Fail – Of Hope and Aspiration (2014)

Arriving from Germany, today we have Melodic Death/Gothic Metal outfit My the Silence Fail and their debut full-length release “Of Hope and Aspiration”. Featuring a solid mixture of traditional Melodic DM elements with some more modern Groove/Core influences, the band delivers a very solid 11 track release that will keep you entertained for a while.

The release quickly sets a very lively tempo with tracks like “Gods are Long Since Dead” and “Return to Mind”, both showcasing the dual harsh/clean female vocals approach that works very well with the band’s highly dynamic sound. One of the band’s biggest selling point for people that are not 100% sold on music and need gimmicks, is that both singers are females, so yes, they have a female growler for your amusement. The guitar leads are quite well crafted and make up for very cool passages like on “If It Wasn’t For You”.

While most of the band’s music is very well crafty and inventive, there are songs like “Sleepless” that have that certain Mall-core vibe to them from a few years ago. However, the tempo changes usually helps and makes the tracks be less predictable. After listening to “Come Alive” and “Without Knowing”, we finally started to process that they band actually sounds like Deadlock in some cases, but May the Silence Fail is still evolving their sound and have more of the old-school influences that we love in melodic DM.

The band can surely deliver pummeling sections like on the opening of “Conjectural Lies”, a track that nicely showcases the excellent drummer the band has is Marcel Woitowicz. The guitar work is quite solid, creating crafty and enjoyable riffs that are nicely enhanced by plenty of solid leads.

Closing with the epic “When Time is Asleep”, the band makes a very strong statement with such a well-crafted and dynamic release. If you are looking from Melodic Metal with a  certain splash of the older days, May the Silence Fail is one of those bands you can’t afford to miss.
