Desire - Crowcifix (2009)

cover

Desire is an excellent Doom/Death Metal band that has been around for 15 years. And It makes me wonder why no label has picked up this band. Seven years have passed after the brilliant last full length "Locus Horrendus - The Night Cries Of A Sullen Soul" and this Portugese band is back with a Majestic an EP called "Crowcifix".

This EP features 2 new tracks and a live version of one of their hymns from "Locus Horrendus". If you are a fan of Doom/Death Metal this release is a must for you, and if you never heard of this band, you should go and pick up their previous releases. The band is at its best in this album, creating two masterful tracks that will put all other bands of the genre to shame.

While this album is a bit faster paced than their previous releases it still features the band's signature sound. Their sound features some of the best growls on the scene laid on top of brilliant Drum and guitar tracks, and if this was not enough the majestic keyboards complete the mix creating bleak and haunting melodies. There are also Black Metal style vocals thrown here and there accompanying the grunts and the clean vocals that guide the music to Death/Doom heaven.

Every time this band releases something I'm very satisfied and "Crowcifix" is not the exception. The album features 30 minutes of the best that this genre has to offer. As a side note I was always wondering how the band would sound live, and with the 3rd track you can listen that their album quality translates perfectly into the live setting.
