Human Sculpture – Our World / Torn Down (2011)

cover

Out of the hundreds of bands that come out of Finland every year it is very hard to differentiate the very good ones from the good ones (apparently there are very few shitty bands in that country!). Human Sculpture is one of the very good ones indeed and with their three song EP “Our World / Torn Down”, they deliver 15 minutes of intense Melodic Death Metal combined with some Thrash and Modern Metal influences.

Sounding a bit like Kalmah combined with Exodus and some Gojira influences; “Deconstruction” delivers hard hitting riffs and very powerful drums. The dual screams approach is very powerful and packs a lot of power, making the songs very aggressive and yet melodic and well crafted. The riffing assault in this song is top notch and the Modern Metal influences are very nicely incorporated into things and do not sound annoying at all.

“The Wait” nicely starts like a more traditional Death Metal piece with catchy riffs until it explodes into the melodic section. In this section the Modern Metal influences are present again, but like before they never fully culminate in a super annoying break down or any of that faggy shit. Near the 2:50 minute mark we are treated to an excellent melodic passage that shows just how good the band is in terms of crafting engaging and diverse songs.

Keeping things pounding, “A Heart” features an older sound that has both Thrash and Melodic DM elements. The guitar work is very nicely balanced between hooks and thrashy sections, the drumming is very tight and the singing is just brutal. “A Heart” is indeed a very nice song that provides a very powerful and effective closing act to such a promising release.

If you are looking for an aggressive band that has a nice melodic edge to it but it is not a faggy Melo-Death outfit, look no further and start checking out Human Sculpture. Having only three songs in this release leaves us more than anxious about listening to more material of this great promising young band.
