Anniversary Circle – Saturated Feathers (2010)

cover

Having formed around 20 years ago and never release a debut album is something that can be considered quite a feat and probably should be in Guinness book of World Records. For Anniversary Circle, this fact has only gained them more rep in the underground scene and made “Saturated Feathers” and even more special release.

With a mixture of influences ranging between Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Cure, Joy Division, Killing Joke and many others, Anniversary Circle sounds a bit dated but this is exactly what makes them very effective an appealing for us.

Opening the release with “Anniversary Circle” the band sets a very dark and gloom mood, this mood only gets bleaker when the female vocals make an appearance (for example in “Understand) greatly complementing the deep male vocals. The music is very minalistic and sometimes sounds a bit like Fields of the Nephilim, adding versatility to the band’s wide repertory of styles.

The band’s music will take the listener in a journey through the years of Gothic Rock, Post-punk and New Wave releases like no other band can do it. This rich palette of influences and styles makes this release quite an interesting album to go through in one sitting. Our favorite song has to be the deranged “Too Tired” thanks to the crazy guitar riffs and hypnotic vocals.

If you are in need for a time-capsule release, do not hesitate to get this album and blast the night away. Anniversary Circle has managed to compile influences over the years and delivers a very diverse and rich sounding debut full-length that will surely erase all the years of waiting once the fans get a hold of it.
