Children of Technology – It’s Time to Face the Doomsday (2010)

cover

Hailing from Italy, today we get the debut-full length album of Thrash/Crust-Punk newcomers Children of Technology. With similarities to old school Voivod, Cro-Mags, The Exploited, among others, this band will surely appeal to you if you like your music to sound old school and have that Crust Punk-ish feel to it that bands have been perfecting over the years.

The main thing that you will notice is that while Children of Technology is not a bad band, the genre does not allow for much ‘improvement’ or ‘experimentation’ making them sound a bit like everybody else. While this is not particularly bad, if you are looking for something ‘innovative’ might as well skip this album. But if you are looking for straight up old-school music, then “It’s Time to Face the Doomsday” will satisfy all your needs.

Musically speaking, the band’s main appeal (for us) is DeathLord Astolfi’s vocals. They sound very raspy and sometimes even similar to old Motörhead, so you know they are solid enough to carry through this entire album on their shoulder. In second place, we have the effective Thrash Meta-based riffing presented in all songs, again, there is nothing new about it, but the songs get the correct vibe from it. The bass guitar is pretty standard for a release like this and sometimes it gets a bit drowned in the mix but when it’s present, your ears will start pounding. Lastly, the drums are your typical Punk-infused drumming that keeps things going to the right beat.

In terms of songs, we have to say that our favorites are: “No Man’s Land”, “Nuclear Armed Dogs” and “Screams from the Earth”. But all songs are basically the same quality, making this selection a rather personalized pick. In terms of atmosphere and such, the band has a good concept with their ‘Doomsday’ theme of the album, but we fail to see samples of extra elements making us feel like this is it for the human race.

Overall, “It’s Time to Face the Doomsday” is an action packed release that will surely have you head banging your way through the 8 songs presented here. If you like Crust Punk/or older Thrash Metal, you will love Children of Technology. Featuring around 25 minutes of music, Children of Technology will leave you craving for more, and hitting the repeat button more than once.
