Interview With Graveworm

Interview With Graveworm:

After releasing "Diabolical Figures" we had some time to ask some questions to the band about this amazing release that is currently available through Massacre Records.

Thanks for the interview and let’s get started with the questions:

I.M: It’s been 2 years since “Collateral Defect” can you please tell us more about the whole process of writing and recording your new album: “Diabolical Figures”?

We start the writing process maybe one year after the recording session of the collateral defect album. It was a hard work because we wanted to do is as good as possible. We started one year before and we spend a lot of time in the writing process. And at the end as usual we get a lot of stress because the studio date comes closer and a lot of things has to be done. But that´s the normal way in the graveworm family.

I.M: Since “Collateral Defect” was not highly received by press and some fans, what was your mentality when writing the new album? Did you guys felt any pressure to recover lost ground?

Not really. We always have done what we wanted to do . Collateral defect was a more modern way of the Graveworm sound. Diabolical figure is more aggressive because we wanted to do it. We don´t feel any preassure from the fans or others. The only pressure comes directly from us because we pushed us to make the best possible.

I.M: Can you please tell us more about the concept or ideas behind “Diabolical Figures”?

The whole album is based in diabolical figures. Each song stand for a figure. So for example on the song new disorder this figures comes out as religions, not a certain religion but religions in generally. The song circus of the damned deales with the colosseum in rome where a lot of people died for nothing. Architect of hate deales with nazistuff and what they have done… And so one.

I.M: How do you expect fans of the band and other metal heads will receive the new album?

I hope well. Of course there will be some people who doesn´t like the new stuff because they are more into the first albums.. But that´s the normal way. You will never reach the line where everybody is happy with the album.

I.M: Why did Graveworm returned to their earlier style of music, a more Gothic Black Metal sound?

I don´t think is more gothic black metal syle. We never played black metal in his real way. Only my voice was influenced from that scene. The new album is a piece of melodic death metal with some influences from other music scenes especially for the voice.

I.M: Looking back at all of Graveworm’s achievements did you guys ever expected the band would record 7 full length albums and that the band’s music would reach all the world?

No never. When we start making music we write on  a piece of paper some points what we wanted to reach and we never expected to record 7 albums. We got one album on that paper. That a great thing to see the band goes on and on. That´makes me happy and proud of the band.

I.M: Where do you guys see the band in 5 years? What’s in store for the future of Graveworm?

We hope to go on and on and I hope we will be still here playing shows and recording albums. Music is a very important part of my life and without it it wouldn´t be the same….

I.M: Any US touring planned in support of “Diabolical Figures”?

At the moment we don´t have any plans for the future regarding tours or so. We have been in the states one time and it was a really great experience for us and I hope we will get the change to come back one day.

I.M: Any other things you guys want to add for your fans and our readers?

Thank your very much for this opportunity and I hope we will meet us maybe on a show or so…. Thanks to all. See you and enjoy our new output…

Thanks for the interview and good luck with the promotion of the new album
